Mission & Vision

At Xochipilli Dance Company, we weave the vibrant threads of Queer and Latinx communities into the rich tapestry of the Bay Area's cultural landscape. As a contemporary ballet ensemble, our mission is to ignite curiosity and passion for dance, art, history, and culture through original works that resonate deeply with our shared human experience.

We believe that dance is a universal language, integral to our past, present, and future—a medium that connects us all. Our commitment to community engagement reflects our dedication to inspiring individuals to explore movement, recognizing that within each of us resides a dancer. By focusing on personal, spiritual, and philosophical connections, we create spaces for both inner and outer reflection, fostering a profound understanding of our interconnections.

Through the art of movement, we construct environments that highlight how our stories and experiences are intertwined. Join us on this journey of expression and discovery as we honor our histories and shape our collective future through the transformative power of dance.

Artist’s Statement

As a proud non-binary, queer Latinx dancer and choreographer, I am dedicated to revolutionizing the world of dance, particularly within BIPOC communities. My work blends culture, identity, and movement, creating a space where dance becomes a powerful tool for connection, expression, and liberation. Drawing from my Mexican-American heritage, I aim to honor my roots while embracing my queer identity, producing art that speaks to the intersection of these forces. With a deep respect for those who have paved the way, I strive to inspire future generations of Latinx and queer artists, fostering pride and recognition within our communities.

My creative practice is built on years of experience as a contemporary ballet dancer, teacher, and choreographer. I draw inspiration from a wide range of sources, such as films, music, art, and improvisation, in order to expand my movement vocabulary and convey complex emotional and philosophical ideas. My goal is to create work that resonates with audiences on a personal, physical, and spiritual level, offering an environment where art becomes a medium for healing, understanding, and empowerment. Through my choreography, I invite viewers to step into a shared space of introspection, amplifying the transformative power of movement and encouraging a deeper connection to both themselves and one another.
